Message from the Prime Minister

Fellow Citizens,

We stand at a critical juncture in our nation's history. On the international level we are faced with an on-going economic crisis. On the regional level, there are security issues in Northeast Asia yet to be resolved. On the domestic level, we are faced with various problems spanning from rising costs of living, growing private education costs to aging population, declining birth rate as well as social integration issues that need to be addressed as quickly as possible.

The Korean Government is making every effort to overcome the economic difficulties and revitalize the economy so as to move our nation forward for further development. Based on the wisdom and expertise of the different sectors of our society, we will work to the best of our abilities to promote unity within while further advancing Korea’s national standing on the global level.

By promoting competition in areas where conditions are favorable while providing more opportunities to those underprivileged regions and groups of people, we aim to bring about harmony and balance in our society.

We will join efforts to build a society where honesty is respected, where hard work is praised, where those with passion for knowledge can pursue their studies in schools and where people go to work filled with hopes and dreams. We will exert every possible effort to make a clean and transparent society where virtues such as trust and sincerity are more valued than the social and academic background of a person.

In all these efforts, I am determined to listen to your voices. I hope this website will be a useful platform for open communication between the Government and the public, between you and me. I very much look forward to your continued interest and participation.
